Willie Charles Mathews, 79, lovingly known as C-Man, was born December 7, 1932 in Pike County, Alabama. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 12, 2012, while residing in Newport News, Virginia. Raised in Brundidge, Alabama, C-Man spent most of his adult life in Dade City, Florida, where he retired from Lykes Pasco Fertilizer Plant. C-Man had a love and passion for fishing, and enjoyed family and friends. He accepted the Lord late in life and continued to fellowship with those around him. C-Man was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Willie Lee Sam Mathews; wife, Geneva Day Mathews; Brothers, Robert Mathews, Joe Mathews, Sylvester Greenwood, Leroy Mathews, and Willie Frank Mathews; Aunt Julia Mae Mathews, who raised him. He is survived by his daughters, Gwendolen Berry and Deina Penix; Sons-in-law, Dwayne Berry and Alvin Penix; grandchildren, Jasmine Berry, Jaymes Berry, and Alvin AJ Penix; Mother-in-law, Eva Mae Day; Step-mother, Mary Frances Mathews; Brothers, Leon Mathews (Arlene), Frank Mathews (Edna), Gregory Mathews (Lesia); Brothers-in-law, Thomas Day, Willie Day (Gayle), Eric Foster (Song Cha), Dennis Foster; Sisters, Mary Morrison, Ruby Mathews, Mary Charles Mathews, and Angela Mathews; Sister-in-law, Emma Jones (Albert), Joyce Robinson, RN, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends, and loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2012 at the 5th Street Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for viewing one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Dade City Cemetery. Flowers and cards are gratefully accepted.
