William (Bill) Lare, age 92, passed away at home on August 27, 2022. Bill was born on December 2, 1929 to Ethel Morgan Lare and Leroy Humphries Lare in Upland, PA. He graduated in 1947 from St. James High School, Chester, PA. In June 1949 he joined the Merchant Marines-Coast Guard and served until October 1958. He served as a third mate and second mate during his time aboard the ships. In 1950 while on leave he met his soon to be wife Peggy Ruth Porterfield. Peggy was dating a man named Jimmy who didn't have a car. He asked Bill for a ride to her house and after that Jimmy was no longer in the picture! On March 17, 1951, Bill and Peggy were married. During the early years of their marriage they lived in Milmont Park, PA and in 1965 moved to Wilmington, DE. Bill owned and operated Motor Parts Service on West 26th Street. After retiring he drove a limo for Delaware Shuttle Service. Bill and Peggy moved to Corpus Christi, TX in 1997 and in 2002 they moved to Dade City, FL. Bill enjoyed carpentry, computer work, making photo albums, taking short and long road trips and being with his family. He was a kind gentleman who never said a bad word about anyone. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters Patricia Lare Sauer and Margaret Lare. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Peggy Porterfield Lare, daughter Deborah Lare Crites and her husband Robbie of Corpus Christi, TX; son David Randolph Lare and his wife Debra of Carolina Shores, NC; grandson, David Randolph Lare Jr. and his wife Heather of Supply, NC; his beautiful great-granddaughter Maci Rose Lare; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
