William Lewis Hepler - "Poppy"

September 25, 1945 – August 12, 2025

William Lewis Hepler "Poppy", 79, of Dade City, Florida, died on August 12, 2025. Born on September 25, 1945, in Covington, Virginia. Bill lived a life defined by dedication, perseverance, faith, and deep devotion to those he loved.

Bill's passion for baseball led him to an extraordinary achievement—playing as a pitcher for the New York Mets. After his time in Major League Baseball, he enjoyed a long and successful career in construction, where he served as a senior superintendent. His proudest professional accomplishment was overseeing the completion of Idlewild Baptist Church, a project that stood as a testament to his leadership, skill, and attention to detail.

In 1994, Bill made Dade City his home with the love of his life, Mary. Together they built a life filled with family, friendship, and cherished memories. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose greatest joy came from time spent with his family. His warm heart, sense of humor, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bill is survived by His beloved wife, Mary Hepler; his daughter, Angela Hersch, grandson, Grant Greco, and son-in-law, Larry Hersch; his granddaughter, Samantha Hattaway, grandson-in-law, Michael Hattaway, and great-grandson, Grayson Hattaway; his son, Jeff Manning, daughter-in-law, Kelly Manning, granddaughters, Sierra and Claire, and grandson, Drew Manning; his son, Steve Hepler, and granddaughter, Megan Hayes; his niece, Debbie Rapp.

Above all, Bill had a powerful and steadfast relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith guided his actions, sustained him through life's challenges, and inspired those around him. He lived each day with gratitude, humility, and a servant's heart, sharing God's love through both word and deed.
