Wayne Andrew Melesky (CW4 Ret.), 72, of Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club in San Antonio, Florida passed suddenly on January 5, 2022 after a very short illness at Advent Medical Hospital. He was born September 14, 1949 in Blue Hill, Maine. Wayne devoted his life to his country, spending 50 years in government service, including 20 years as active-duty Army, serving in Vietnam, Korea, Germany and several stateside posts, 15 years as a civilian contractor supporting Army Aviation, and 15 years as a government civil servant in Army Aviation. During his distinguished active-duty career, he earned numerous military honors, including: a Bronze Star, 21 Air Medals as a scout helicopter pilot in Vietnam, an Army Achievement medal, an Army Commendation medal, a Broken Wing Award for safely landing a disabled aircraft, and numerous other medals and commendations. He retired from active-duty military in 1989 and retired again from government service in 2017 before working for the last 5 years as a courtesy officer at Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years: Carolyn Cockrell Melesky of San Antonio, Florida and their beloved rescue dog, Smokey. He is also survived by his 2 sons: Jeffrey Wayne Melesky of Tampa, Florida and Phillip Preston Melesky (Melissa) of Prince George County, Virginia; 2 grandchildren: Catherine Anne Melesky and Wyatt Andrew Melesky of Prince George County, Virginia; 2 sisters: Arlene Melesky of Somers, Connecticut and Lynn Potter (Keith) of Southington, Connecticut; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Virginia, Connecticut, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Florida.
A service will be held at Florida National Cemetery with military honors on February 15, 2022 at 10:30 am
