Obituary

Virginia Violet Potwin, 88, passed away on angels wings, at home in Zephyrhills, FL on October 11, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Virginia, also known as Ginny, was born in Waterbury Vermont to William & Jennie Newton. Her mother passed shortly after Ginnys birth, she was raised by her Grandmother Dudley. She was the youngest of 5 and is preceded in death by Alice, Barbara, Charlie and William. She grew up in the surrounding area of Woodstock, Vermont, it was there that she met and married Francis Potwin, they joined in marriage on July 4th 1947, they were married 67 years. Francis passed away in 2014, she missed him dearly and had looked forward to the day that she would join him in heaven. They made their home in Pomfret Vermont, where they raised their family. Ginny cooked, sewed, tended to the farm, all while raising 9 children. She especially enjoyed working in the flower and vegetable gardens. She loved dancing and singing to country music. Her favorite song that she would sing to her children was, "You Are My Sunshine". Ginny was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Woodstock Vermont. In 1969, the family moved to Zephyrhills FL where she remained for the remainder of her life. Francis and Ginny purchased and operated the Home Theater, located downtown Zephyrhills, shortly after they purchased Zephyr Motel, located on 301. Alongside her husband, she worked long, hard hours, 7 days a week, running both businesses, all while raising and caring for her family. She was a devoted member of St Josephs Catholic Church located in Zephyrhills. She was a loving mother to her children, 6 daughters, Elaine Potwin Corsey, Janet Potwin Hudson, Charlotte Potwin Kantner, Rose Potwin McCarter, Brenda Potwin Sutton, all of Zephyrhills, Virginia (Ginger) Potwin of Treasure Island, FL, 4 sons, Anthony and James Potwin of Zephyrhills, Timothy Potwin of Irving, TX, Ronald Sutton of Zephyrhills. She was Grandma to 19 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 16 great, great granchildren. Ginny had a very strong love for the Lord, her faith sustained her throughout the years. She prayed her rosaries and watched Mass daily on TV, as she was no longer able to leave her home due to her illness. The Lord and her family were her world, she loved with all her heart. In the last year of her life, she became completely deaf and was losing her eyesight, yet she never complained. She was so very greatful and felt very blessed. Often, she said she heard the angels, playing music in her ears, she kept a log of the songs. Ginnys family now has comfort knowing that she is now at peace, no more suffering, that she can now hear and see the beauty surrounding her. She is in Gods loving arms, with her family in heaven, where she has yearned to be. She will be dearly missed and will always be our sunshine. Services will be held Wednesday, October 17 at 1:30 pm at St Josephs Catholic Church, located on 5th Ave. Zephyrhills. A celebration of life will follow at Alice Hall, located on 5th Funeral Mass
