IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia “Louise” Steele
Hruza
October 25, 1946 – November 20, 2022
Virginia "Louise" Steele Hruza, 76, of Dade City, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20th, 2022. Louise was born on October 25, 1946, to Virginia Gwin and James Steele in Detroit, Michigan during the baby boom of post-World War II. Her fathers career was in the Army which meant Louise was fortunate to live in many places throughout her life including Germany during her childhood and Thailand as a teen. Louise graduated high school from the International School Bangkok in 1964. She then spent an additional year in Thailand before moving back to Springfield, Virginia. From there she attended Shenandoah College in Winchester, Virginia before starting her career with the US Governments Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. On April 18, 1979, Louise married John Douglas "Doug" Hruza where they blended their family with their daughters from previous marriages, Whitney, Meredith, and Christina. Louise and Doug both served their country working for the Department of Defense until their retirement in August 2002. In 2010, they moved to Dade City, Florida from Woodbridge, Virginia to be closer to family, friends, and Florida sunshine. It was here that Louise made "the best girlfriends she has ever had" on Americana Avenue in Lake Jovita. She enjoyed their outings, luncheons, clubs, and Bunco nights. Throughout her life, Louise experienced a multitude of events including fleeing from Washington, D.C. during the Resurrection City riots, meeting the Supreme Court Justices during the Johnson Administration, losing friends and colleagues in the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon, and surviving breast cancer. Louise loved her family fiercely and enjoyed every second of being a great-grandmother. She was an avid reader, and lover of history, words, and classic movies. Louise was also obsessed with fashion, jewelry, and overall style. Anyone who knew her knew this about her and she always made sure she looked her best in any situation.
Louise was predeceased by her parents, Virginia Louise Gwin Steele and James Clifford Steele, and her husband, John Douglas Hruza.
She is survived by her children Christina Moore, Whitney Tinius (Paul), and Meredith Rogers; her brother John, her sister-in-law Janet; her grandchildren Kyle, Courtney, Hayden (Sadaya), Victoria, Ryan, and Lauren; and her great-granddaughter Tissaia.
