ABBEY, Virginia G. 97 of Zephyrhills, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 in Dade City. Virginia was born in Rochester, NY to William and Mildred Hotaling. She was a graduate of Rochester Dental School. She moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1966 after spending many years in Gainesville where her husband, Walter was a professor of engineering with the University of Florida. Their move to Tampa was encouraged by Walter accepting a position as one of the founding professors of the Engineering Department at the University of South Florida. While living in Temple Terrace Virginia was a dental hygienist, which she greatly loved. She was a proud member of the Mayflower Society, a member of the Pasco County Genealogy Society and spent many hours researching her family genealogy. In 1980 she and Walter retired, purchased a motorhome and traveled the United States, making fond memories. Upon their return to Zephyrhills she spent many years volunteering at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, where she was known as the Mail Lady she volunteered at the care center of Zephyrhills. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter R. Abbey and her Granddaughter Denise. Virginia is survived by her children Neil (Peijue) Abbey of Petaluma, CA, Gail (Felton) Sheffield of Alachua, FL, Anne (Wayne) Reutimann of Zephyrhills, FL and Jaye Abbey of Tampa, FL. 9 Grandchildren Blythe, Felton, Jr., Jeffrey, Gregory, Corbin, Shawn, Wayne, Jr, Joshua, Jarrod and 12 Great, Grandchildren. She will be laid it rest next to her husband at Oakside Cemetery, Zephyrhills during a graveside service at 11:00 am on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016.
