Obituary

Virgil Eugene Sewell, 81, of Wesley Chapel, FL, formally of Triplett, MO, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at Advent Health Hospital in Wesley Chapel, FL. A graveside funeral service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in DeWitt, MO on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. Reverend Lanny Lybarger will officiate the service. No visitation will be held. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force.

Virgil was born on December 29, 1938 in Triplett, MO, the son of Virgil and Rena (Chapins) Sewell. He graduated from Northwestern High School in Mendon, MO in 1956. On November 27, 1956 Virgil enlisted in the United States Air Force. During Virgils time of service he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, AF Commendation Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and the AF Good Conduct Medal. He honorably served his country as an Aircraft Armament Systems Superintendent for 24 years and retired from the Air Force on November 30, 1980.

On June 4, 1980 Virgil married the love of his life, Patricia, in Tampa, FL. After retiring from the Air Force Virgil began working for Commercial Carrier Company in Tampa, FL as a parts manager. He worked for the trucking company for 20 years until this retirement in 2001. Virgil loved his family, fishing, bird watching, and was an avid reader. He was a Methodist in the Christian faith.

Virgil is survived by his beloved wife of the home, Patricia Sewell; three children, Jeanne Scott and her husband James of Brunswick, GA, Randall Sewell and his wife Patricia of Wichita, KS, and Robbie Baxley of Wesley Chapel, FL; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and six siblings, Richard Sewell and his wife Bertie of Sedalia, MO, Carolyn Hutchins and her husband Ronald of Plano, IL, Linda Childs and her husband Dale of Oak Grove, MO, Johnny Sewell and his wife Judy of Lees Summit, MO, Keith Sewell of Fulton, MO, and Dennis Sewell of Plano, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Rena Sewell, his brother, Ronnie Sewell, and his sister, Gracie Sewell.

Pallbearers will be Randall Sewell, Jim Scott, Jed Scott, Joshua Scott, and Robbie Baxley.
