Vernon Dale Dokter, age 91, of Ridge Manor, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023. Vernon was born December 27th, 1931 at home in Holland, Michigan as the first-born son of Gertrude and Ralph Dokter. Vernon loved America, the home of the free and the brave. He served with the United States Army as a communications lineman in the Korean War and was a proud Veteran who won a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during his service. After being honorably discharged from his service, Vernon returned home to Michigan and married Patricia Ann Beaverwyk, now deceased, also of Holland Michigan. Vernon experienced the loss of his parents and three sisters, Hazel Volkers, Marilyn Telgenhof, and Nancy Bradley. He is survived by his siblings, Ralph Dokter, Patricia Ritsema, and Thomas Dokter, as well as his only son, David Dokter, his wife, Sandy, grandchildren Sean Dokter and wife April, Brandon Dokter, and Brianna Dokter. He was also proud to be a great-grandfather to Levi and Lexi. Vernon was very grateful for his immediate family and their devotion to him. In his final years, he continued to be very engaged in following the American political scene. Vocations he acquired skills were as a machinist, an electrician, and a handyman, and he owned a hurricane shutter installation business with his son, David in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Vernon was known to be an avid health enthusiast long before it became more mainstream, and he believed it contributed to his long and healthy life. Golf was his game and he formed some of his favorite memories on the golf course with his father, brother, and friends. As Dad, Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle, he will be remembered and dearly missed, and yet we are grateful he is at rest and peacefully in his eternal home. Vernons life will be honored at 10:30 am on Friday, August 4th at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513 The funeral arrangements for Vernon are being taken care of by Hodges Family Funeral Home.
