Verna Faye Holmes, 66, of Dade City, passed away peacefully at home with her family on January 9, 2017.

Verna was born in Tallassee, AL to John W. and Alice Vera Nichols on October 14, 1950. She married Johnny Lee Holmes on January 19, 1969 in Dade City. She retired from WREC after 26 years as a Customer Service Rep.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Vera and John W.; brothers: Keith and sister: Brenda.

Verna is survived by her loving husband of 48 years: Johnny L. Holmes; 3 daughters: Valerie A. Rucks, Teresa (and Frank) Tomkow, and Julie Holmes (and Travis Fowler Sr.); brothers: John W. (and Eleanor) Nichols, Danny (and Doti) Holmes; and sisters: Deborah and Christine Nichols; 3 loving grandkids: Rainey and Chase Tomkow and Travis Fowler Jr.; best friends: Cissy (and Roger) Martin; as well as her sweet puppy: Bella; and several nieces & nephews.

Verna was a loving wife, mom, sister, aunt, and friend, but she especially loved and treasured being a Granny. She will always be remembered for her "Heart of Gold" and beautiful smile.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Withlacoochee River Park, 12449 Withlacoochee Blvd., Dade City, 33523 (at the end of River Rd.) at Pavilion #2 on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 1:00pm followed by a "covered dish" gathering ending at 4:00pm. PARKING FEES are COVERED by the family.
