Velma Maria Velazquez 56, of Dade City passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at her home surrounded by family. She was born June 12, 1959 in East Bernard, TX to Sotero & Cresencia Salazar Zavala and moved to this area in 1974. Velma was a longtime employee of the Pasco County Sheriff's Office serving as one of the countys first Victim Advocates. She is survived by her children: Oscar Velasquez and Adrienne Velazquez; her mother: Cresencia Zavala; 6 siblings: Diana Salas, Betty Gonzales, Linda Zavala Heller, Joel Zavala, Ernest Zavala, Joe Zavala; 11 niece and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews and her longtime friend, Art Rowand. Funeral services will be held 2pm Monday, May 16, 2016 at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in her memory to Gulfside Regional Hospice. Visitation
