Thomas Richard Hughes, 87 of Zephryhills, FL, formerly of Rock Falls, IL passed away Saturday, May 28,2016. Tom was born in Villa Ridge IL to Harry S and Easter (Buckles) Hughes on July 7, 1928. He was a veteran who served his country proudly in the Merchant Marines, Navy and Army. He was also a member of the American Legion in Rock Falls IL and worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire for 28.5 years as an electrician before retiring to Zephyrhills in 1990. He loved the warm weather in Florida and loved to tinker on his property. He was an avid baseball fan who loved watching his St Louis Cardinals play, especially when they beat the Cubbies. Tom was also a lifetime member of the Dade City VFW and enjoyed going to the Friday night fish fry.He is preceded in death by both his parents,6 brothers, 2 sons and 1 grandson. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Amanda (Lutz,FL), 2 sisters, Pat Krone (Rock Falls, IL) and Mary Dunn (Sterling, IL) He is also survived by his children, Mary Beth Hughes (Peoria, IL), Laura (Larry) Gilmore (Peoria, IL), J David (Jenni) Hughes (Qunicy,FL), Chris Hughes, Tracey (Jeff) LaForge (Peoria, IL), Derek Samuels (Tipton, IA), Dawnita (Marc) Schaefer (Erie, IL) and Melinda (Thomas) Cosenza of Lutz, FL. He also had many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 10th, 2016 at 11 AM at Hodges Funeral Home located at 11441 US Hwy 301 Dade City FL. After the memorial a processional will accompany him to his final resting place at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell FL.Rest In Peace Memorial Service
