Thomas "Joe" Hampton Sr., 82, of Tampa, Florida passed away on June 8, 2022, in the presence of his family.
He was born to parents Leonard and Hallie Hampton, on March 4, 1940, in Loretto, Tennessee. Joe graduated from Oakridge High School in 1958 and spent some time attempting to earn his degree in Electrical engineering at the University of Tennessee prior to being drafted into the United States Air Force, where he served 4 years. Through his service in the Air Force, Joe met and married Antonia, the love of his life, in 1964 while stationed in Tripoli, Libya.
Joe is predeceased by parents Leonard and Hallie Hampton. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Antonia; his brother Wayne; his 2 sisters Shirley and Barbara; his 4 sons Thomas Jr. and wife Amneris, Paul and wife Coral, Patrick and wife Claudia, Chris and wife Yasmin; and 8 grandchildren.
Those who knew Joe will always remember him for his kindness, hospitality, and instant friendliness which typically followed his characteristic greetings that will not be forgotten. Joe was also known for his love of sports. Settling into Tampa, he became a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and eventually the Tampa Bay Rays. He was able to witness his Buccaneers win 2 super bowls.
Joe was also known for his competitive bowling and tenacious attitude toward his work and outside of work, "wheeling and dealing". He enjoyed spending his retirement maintaining his real estate properties and watching sports. He also looked forward to every football season for a chance to proclaim himself as the Fantasy Football Champion when playing fantasy football against his 4 sons and 3 grandsons.
A funeral visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Hodges Family Funeral Home. This will be followed by a burial ceremony with military honors at 1:30 p.m. located at Bushnell Florida National Cemetery.
