Terry Joseph McKienzie, 79, of Dade City, Florida born June 20, 1944 passed away Sunday, September 10th, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Denise, and his parents Veto and Phyllis McKienzie. He is survived by his three children Dave McKienzie (Jenni), Dan McKienzie (Lori), Kathy McKienzie; siblings Phyllis Friedman (Jack) and Mike McKienzie; and four grandchildren: Maddie, Molly, Taylor, Ryan; and his dog Roxie.
Terry and Denise met at the University of Florida in 1966 and were married in Arlington, Virginia in 1967. Terry was a devoted husband during their 56 years of marriage. He was a dedicated father that had a perfect balance of strictness and fun-loving humor. Terry graduated from Northwestern University in 1972 with a degree in Business Administration. He enjoyed a long career with IBM that included many roles including field technician, software development, software testing management, and corporate quality assurance.
An engineer at heart, he enjoyed solving problems and used this passion to enhance a long list of hobbies. Music and sound engineering were life-long pursuits. He played trumpet in high school, was a DJ for college radio, worked a summer for Electro-Voice speakers, spent many years producing live recordings of orchestras and church choirs, and was always eager to demonstrate his latest sound system. Movie nights at the McKienzie house were extra special and preferable to the theater for many years. From model trains, radio-controlled airplanes and HAM radio, to boating and water skiing, to travel, cruising and photography, he was a man of many interests and talents. Best of all he enjoyed talking with people and could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere he went. He was active in church choirs throughout most of his life and was an active member of St. Marys Episcopal Church of Dade City. He played trumpet and was the resident audio expert for the Dade City Symphony.
A funeral Mass will be held 10:00am Saturday November 4th at St. Mary's Episcopal Church of Dade City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to the St. Marys Music department.
