Syble Marie was born to Wardell Evans and Luella Mungo in Kershaw, South Carolina on October 28, 1939. She departed this earthly life on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Syble received her elementary and secondary education in New York and graduated from the School of Industrial Art in 1956. She was admitted to Fashion Institute of Technology in 1958 to study Fashion Illustration and Advertising Design. Syble went on to meet and marry the late Samuel William Bishop and they had a daughter: Jacqueline Yvonne. Syble later met and married Colson Flexon Gilkes and they had a daughter: Afriya Tamika and a son: Eric Colson. Syble was a faithful employee at New York Telephone Company, GTE/Verizon, and Busch Gardens during her working years. Syble was a quiet gentle soul, beautiful on the outside as well as on the inside. She accepted the Lord as her savior as a young woman and faithfully held on to God's unchanging hand. Her favorite Bible verse was Philippines 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Syble leaves behind to cherish warm memories, her sister: Dorothy Straker ; her adult children as stated above; her grandchildren: Yancy Wilkinson, Vaughn Tyreek Wilkinson, Ramona Wilkinson, Ryan Garza, Marlon Gilkes, Julian Gilkes, Victoria Grace, Victoria Gilkes, Vanessa, Vivian and Austin Foxworth; her niece: Julie Murdock; nephews: Vincent, Dereck, and Craig Murdock; 13 great- grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Too many to name but you know who you are and know that she loved you! A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City, FL.
