Obituary

Dear friends, a service will be held 6pm Friday evening, December 20, 2024, at the 54 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home for Stephen Jeffrey Pollock Sr., 59. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home in Zephyrhills.

May 7, 1965 – December 14, 2024.

Steve (Big Bacon) was born in Dade City, FL to James M. and Wanda P. (Polly) Pollock and was baptized into the Baptist faith as a young boy.

He is survived by his children Stephen J. Pollock, Jr. of Zephyrhills, and Shelbie E. Pollock of Clermont; Mother Wanda P. (Polly) Pollock of Zephyrhills, Fl. He is further survived by a band of brothers: James W. (Bill) Pollock (Angelique) of Venice, FL, James M. (Jimmy) Doll (Yvonne) of LaBelle, FL; Tommy Gill (Tammy) of Zephyrhills; Roy A. Franklin (Pauli) and sister, LaNita Michelle Fortenberry (Brian Calton) of Kentucky. His pride pup, Sadie, misses him greatly.

Steve is joined in Heaven by his Father, James M. (Jim) Pollock, Stepfather, Tom Gill, and grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

Steve had impeccable craftsmanship skills with a keen eye for details, like his father. He was known for making or fixing just about anything. Those skills led him to a career in the environmental construction industry with asbestos abatement and environmental remediation. He was known as a great supervisor and life-coach to his crew. Due to an inherited medical condition, Steve was forced to medically retire early but still was able to work on anything for his family and friends and was glad to help.

Steve stood up for the underdog and those in hard life situations. He was respected and loved by many. If you were his friend, you knew he had your back. He was a natural kid magnet too and he loved it. He often shared this line from Three Wooden Crosses, it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, it's what you leave behind you when you go. Steve left behind many loving and fun memories.

He loved to hunt and fish, music, passing down life skills to his children, travel abroad with his daughter, watch Walker Texas Ranger as part of his evening routine, loved his pup. If he was around karaoke, you could count on him joining in. His go-to songs were Free Bird and Simple Man, the latter of which truly exemplified Steve's way of life.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Steve's memory to The Bleeding Disorders Foundation of Florida, a chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation or Florida Hemophilia Foundation for all bleeding disorders, which helps the bleeding disorders community improve their quality of life by offering programs and services to support healthier lives. (bleedingdisordersfl.org or floridahemophilia.org)
