Burnside, Stanley Castle, 102, of Dade City, Florida, passed away on April 26, 2023. Stanley was born on May 23, 1920, in Dade City, Florida to parents Archie and Albena (Eiland) Burnside.
He is predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Marward Spearman Burnside, his son, Todd Stanley Burnside, and 11 siblings. He is survived by his children, Terry Burnside (Sally) and Sharon Sumner (Keith), 7 grandchildren and their spouses, as well as 9 great grandchildren.
Stanley was a student at Dade City Grammar school at its inception in 1926, a graduate of Pasco High School C/O 1937, attended the University of Florida, and received a bachelors degree from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, but remained a proud, lifelong Gator.
Stanley was a Major and Battalion Commander in the United States Army, in World War 2. Where he "fought in the jungles of New Guinea and the island of Corregidor in the Philippines." He was elected and held the position of Clerk of the Circuit Court of Pasco County in 1949 to 1974, succeeding his fathers tenure of 40 years in the same position.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dade City, his entire life. He served as Treasurer for 11 years and Chairman of the Board for 20 years.
He was a beloved Little League Coach in Dade City and loved to tell stories of growing up in Dade City, the youngest of his 11 siblings. He enjoyed watching baseball, football and basketball, college and professional. He will be remembered by his quirky, offbeat sense of humor and epic storytelling.
Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church in Dade City, with burial to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. There will be a reception at the CLC, following the service.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Pioneer Florida Museum.
