Shirlie C. McCarthy, 96 passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021, in the care of Orchid Cove nursing home in Dade City, Fl. She was born April 17, 1924, to George and Ethel Hauff of Corning, New York. She met and married her longtime husband of 55+ years Joseph D. McCarthy and they raised 4 children, Norman "Buddy", Carol, Connie, and Kathy. After raising her family Shirlie returned to school and was the first graduating class at Pasco Hernando Community College and went on to receive her Masters in Special Education from St. Leo College where she graduated summa cum laude. Shirlie taught ESE and special education for 35 years at Pasco Middle School until her retirement in 2005. Shirlie enjoyed being around animals and fancied herself a cattle-woman. She enjoyed helping and supporting the youth at the Pasco County Fair at the livestock shows and sales.

Shirlie was preceded in death by her parents George and Ethel, her husband Joseph, her son Buddy, daughter Connie and sister Connie. She is survived by her two daughters Carol Wright of Zephyrhills, Fl., Kathy (Richard) Roe of Wauchula, Fl., her many grandchildren, Joe (Toni) Roe of New York, Wesley (Leslie) Roe of Arcadia, Fl., Chris (Krista) Jones of Dade City, Fl., Candi (Troy) Robinson of Wesley Chapel, Fl., Keiley (Joel) Straton of California and Courtney (Jonathan) Loss of Dade City, Fl., several great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral Services will be a graveside service at Sacred Heart Cemetery on Curly Rd. in St. Joe, Fl.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the youth livestock sales at the Pasco County Fair.
