Obituary

Sheldon Keith Coffman Sr. went to be with the Lord on November 22, 2020. He was 83 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Pearl Coffman as well as eleven siblings. He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta of 63 and one half years; and their three sons, Sheldon Keith Jr. and wife Donna, Gregory Allen and wife Delana, and Duane Edward and wife Dawn; as well as seven grandchildren and numerous step grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and brothers, Jimmy and Darrell Coffman of Charleston, West Virginia.

Born in Charleston, West Virginia on October 15, 1937, Sheldon was number 13 of 14 children. He was raised in Fore Hollow in a 2 bedroom house. He met Roberta in 7th grade at Wilson Junior High. He graduated 8th grade from Wilson and worked with his father Delbert doing construction until 1955 when he obtained his GED and joined the Air Force. In June of 1957, Sheldon came back to Charleston to get married to the love of his life. Four months later Roberta joined him in Massachusetts. The following June 1958, Sheldon Jr. (Keith) was born, then August of 1959 came Greg. Sheldon's military career was complete and the family went to West Virginia and stayed with relatives for a few months before heading south to Miami. Sheldon first took a job at Plager Brothers before going to work at Colonial Pontiac and in August of 1961, Duane was born. They remained in Miami until 1972, moving between West Virginia and Ohio before settling back in Florida and raising their boys in Tampa. He worked at Austin & Son for over 20 years. In 1994, Shell and Roberta sold their in South Tampa and moved into their home they had built in Brooksville, Florida. He took a job working for his cousin Willis Haynes at J&W Trailer, where he worked until he retired.

Shell was fun loving and had a deep love for his family. He loved to stay busy, often finding things to do outdoors, working in the yard, anything to avoid coming in the house. When it came to fixing things, he had no fear and would scale any height, no matter the risk, to get the job done. He had a passion for working on cars or anything to do with mechanics. He never really met a stranger and would always rush to help anyone in need. One thing you could always count on was for him to joke around and make you laugh with a silly hat or face. He would always tell you about his relationship with the Lord and how he was certain that he was going to Heaven to be with Him.
