Santo J. Fiumano, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, November 24th, 2024, at his home in Dade City, FL, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 8th, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, Santo lived a life filled with remarkable achievements and touching stories. He rose to the prestigious position of Director of Ground Equipment while working at Pan Am Airlines at JFK International Airport. Later, he continued his illustrious career with Delta Airlines, retiring after 34 dedicated years of service. Among his many captivating tales from his global travels, Santo was notably one of the first outsiders to fly into what was then Isolationist China, where he helped set up ground equipment to facilitate international flights.
Santo is survived by his devoted wife, Paula Fiumano; his four children, Paul, Santo, John, and Joseph; and his cherished grandchildren, Santo Jr., Jaden, James, John Peter, John Jr., Jacob, Dillon, and Amberlee. He is also survived by his younger siblings, Theresa, Maria, and John, as well as his faithful pet Sheba.
Known for his honesty, honor, and gift of storytelling, Santo was a father figure not only to his family but also to those who had the privilege of knowing him. He wore his emotions on his sleeve and was deeply involved in civic groups and politics within his community. As a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and a regular attendee at St. Rita Catholic Church, Santo's faith was an integral part of his life. He took great pride in meticulously maintaining his lawn, enjoyed watching boxing with his family, and appreciated a fine Scotch every now and then.
A wake will be held in his honor at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City, located at 11441 US Highway 301, on Friday, December 6th, from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. May Santo's soul rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of his family and the grace of God. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7.
