Sammye passed away peacefully on November 24, 2021 at the age of 83. Born May 29, 1938 in Carthage, Mississippi to Sam and Verbie Carter, she moved to Dade City, FL in 1961. Sammye worked for 22 years in the Pasco County School System as a paraprofessional, within the special needs education program and with the reading specialist. Sammye also worked as a secretary and occasional print model for an advertising agency in Columbus, Ohio while her late husband, Glen, completed his degree at Ohio State University.

Sammye loved travelling, reading and gardening. She had quite a green thumb and loved sharing plants with others. Some of her favorite trips were to the beaches of Florida, to Bar Harbor, Maine and Acadia National Park, Kearney, Nebraska, Charleston, New Orleans, the Grand Canyon and beyond. Sammye and Glen often visited lighthouses on their travels and loved listening to live jazz. Sammye also loved visits with her grandchildren and was so proud of their many and varied accomplishments.

Sammye lived in Parkland, FL for the last 3 years at Aston Gardens ALF and enjoyed their music programs and the 22 acre campus with a lake and a myriad of tropical blooming plants.

Sammye is survived by her daughter Samira (Marc), son Jon (Vanessa), grandchildren Carter (Danielle), Zachary, Tori (Mason) and Emma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 4th at 11 am at Floral Memory Gardens in Dade City, FL.
