Obituary

Sammie Lee Stephens, age 75 of Dade City, passed away Sunday, January 30th, 2022. She was born in McDonald, Tennessee to Homer and Mary (Allen) Suits who preceded her death along with her grandchild Ashley McKee, brothers Odell Suits, Edward Suits, and Billy Suits, and sisters Louise Whaley, Lorena Bess, and Wanda Woodham. She was the 7th of 8 children. Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years Leroy Stephens, sister Peggy (Rick) Simms, daughters Tammy (Joey) Minton, Kimberly (Scott) Smallwood, and Shannon Yingling, sons Kevin (Elaina) Stephens, and Christopher Stephens (Jessica), grandchildren Ryan (Stephanie) Minton, Lauren (Mark) Braxton, Jarrod (Allison) Minton, Travis (Rachel) Minton, Jeremy Brush, Nicholas (Kendra) Brush, Kyle Yingling, Casey Yingling, Codey (Sarah) Yingling, Hannah Stephens, Logan Stephens, and Chloe Stephens, great grandchildren Bailey Brush, Ella Minton, Jacob Brush, Mason Minton, Cameron Brush, Knox Braxton, Leia Minton, Wren Braxton, Reed Minton, step grandchildren Lilly Wilson, Alyssa Smallwood, Lexi Peters, and Chris Smallwood, step great grandchildren Aidan Fields, Aubrey Prescott, Natalie Metzger, Myles Smallwood, Koen Smallwood and Abigail McCall, and many more nieces and nephews. Sammie's primary profession was a wife, mother, and homemaker to her loving family. While raising her family Sammie was able to go back to school to earn her high school diploma and become a Certified Nursing Assistant. However, the title she enjoyed most was being Nanny to her grandchildren. They all love her deeply, and in them she found true joy, happiness, and love. Some of their favorite memories with Nanny include trips to the park, Yoo-Hoos from the Beverage Chest and Frostys with french fries at Wendy's after school. She loved to spoil them! She worked hard and was such a loving, giving mother who made many, many sacrifices for her children over the years. Sammie was a prayer warrior, devout Christian and member of Bethel Family Worship Center for over 20 years. Her favorite verse was Isaiah 40:31- "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." Another was Psalm 91, much too long to add here. She will be greatly missed by all. Go rest high in the arms of Jesus Momma; we love you. A celebration of her life, with close friends and family, will take place at Hodges Family Funeral Home 301 Chapel on Friday, February 4th from 10 to 11 am with funeral services starting at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens in Dade City, Florida.
