Sam Tunnell, 72, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday October 22,2016 while he was surrounded with love and comfort by his Family.
Sam was born in Raleigh, NC on November 16th, 1943 to Gorham Samuel Tunnell, Sr and Betty M. Tunnell
Sam Graduated in 1961 from Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC and married his High School sweetheart, Sandra Barbour shortly after on January 13th, 1962.
Sam went on to gain post high school education in Architectural Design, Civil Engineering and General Contracting.
Soon after, while Sam and Sandra were starting their family of children, Sam formed and opened LTD. Construction Company in Raleigh where he designed and built many of the first homes located in the upscale residential area of Northridge in Raleigh.
Sam moved into the Corporate World in the early 1970s, which took him and his family to Charlotte briefly, and than to Clearwater Florida in 1974 where he took a position with A Tampa Bay Area company.
In 1977 Sam again elevated his Corporate Career by taking a Regional Vice President Position with Ball Corporation, which tasked him with Corporate Architectural Sales Management responsibilities for most States in the Eastern Seaboard.
In 1984, Ball Corporation sold its interest in the industry division, which Sam worked within; as such Sam took his success and gains and opened Southern Architectural Sales Corp in Tampa.
Sam owned and operated this firm until 1990 when he was offered yet another upscale Corporate Position, which he dove right back into with much success.
Sam worked the remainder of his Career in the corporate world and retired in late 2014 from Bemo USA and Bemo International who are Corporate based in Arizona.
Sam loved his Sons, his Grandchildren and his Wife of 54 years above all else.
Sam loved to Golf with his buddies, work on home improvement projects and spending Sundays with his Family.
Sam is survived by Sandra, his loving wife of 54 yrs; his sons Samuel B. Tunnell 53 of Brandon, Clifton S. Tunnell 51 of Charlotte, NC , Bryan K, Tunnell 48 of Dade City Fl and his spouse Tammy, and John C. Tunnell 46 of Wesley Chapel Fl; along with his 3 Grandchildren , Valerie Tunnell 25 , Stephanie Blasciak 26 and Samantha Blasciak 23.
Everyone knows how much Sam loved Elvis Presley and in the spirit of this, as we all knew Sam would say in true Sam Fashion
"Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis Has Left The Building!"
A funeral service will be held on October 25th, at 8:00pm, at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City. There will be a viewing 2 hours prior, from 6:00-8:00pm
