Ruth (Cleveland) Palmer died peacefully March 21, 2024 at American House in Zephyrhills, Florida surrounded by her family.
Ruth was born in Wellsboro, R.D., PA., March 31, 1925, to the late Thelma and Casper Cleveland.
She was a graduate of Wellsboro High School, class of 1942, and became an executive legal secretary. Work accomplishments include, Secretary for Corps of Engineers in Baltimore, MD and Univ. of New Mexico (Secret War weapon #2) 1942.
Locally she was employed by Brown, Fenton and Lynch accounting firm in Dade City, Florida and retired from Honeywell in Tampa, Florida.
Ruth married R. Edwin "Ed" Palmer in 1950. They started married life in West Edmeston, New York living in the Olde Palmer home circa 1792; which remains in the family today. He preceded her in death in 1990 after 40 years of devoted and loving married life.
Ruth was a member of the Wellsboro Chapter of the DAR Daughters of the American Revolution, Beta Sigma Phi sorority and First Methodist Church of Zephyrhills after moving to Florida in 1966.
Ruth had a quick wit, great sense of humor, enjoyed poetry, playing cards, Cary Grant movies, Andre Rieu concerts, completing the weekly crossword puzzles and was a wonderful cook.
Ruth is survived by her children, Dale (Ellen) Palmer, Joan "Joni" Chapman, Shelley (Pete) Richter, five grandchildren, Ron (Melisa) Chapman, Stacie Chapman, Amy Palmer, Todd (Amanda) Palmer, Whitney (Ryan) Martin and eleven great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and their families.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, husband "Ed" Palmer, son Craig Palmer, sisters and brothers-in-law Phyllis (George) Linder, Lois "Loy" (Robert) Hayes, Judy (Maurice) Entwhistle, son-in-law James Michael "Mike" Chapman.
Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial service at the First Methodist Church, 38635 5th Ave. Zephyrhills, Florida April 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception in Cooper Hall immediately following the service.
Interment will be held this summer at the Palmer Historical cemetery in New York State.
