Upon returning home from the service in 1947, he and Martha went back to work for Mr. Rogers in Brooksville. In 1948 he moved his family to Dade City to open Hardys & Lingles Department Store. In 1949, he bought out Mr. Lingle and changed the store name to Hardys Department Store. His motto always was "Sell to Sell Again". He has received numerous other awards for his dedication and community service from other clubs in the Dade City and San Antonio area. Roy loved to quail and dove hunt (per a close friend, he had the best dove fields anywhere) and enjoyed flounder fishing in his younger days with family and friends. He was known for his "Roy Hardys Fish Fries" and "Chicken Diners" to raise money for families needing help with medical needs, as well as the Kiwanis Fish Fry for their annual fund raiser to help local children in the community.
