Obituary

Rose Marie Graham, 80, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Zephyrhills, FL on May 13, 2018. She was born on May 21, 1937 in Harlan, Iowa to parents William R. Jensen & Geraldine (Michaelson) Jensen, now deceased.

Her loving husband, James Graham Jr., also passed away at their home just a few days after Rose Marie on May 17, 2018. He was born on April 20, 1929 in Pennsylvania to parents James Gibson Graham Sr. & Frances Villa (Davies) Graham, now deceased.

Rose Marie's family left Iowa and moved to Monrovia, California during WW2, like so many others. She graduated from Monrovia High School in 1955. She married her first husband, William Larry Bowden, a Marine Corp. Veteran and Sheriff Reserve Captain, who preceded her in death in 2000.

Rose Marie worked for the Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl, as a book keeper then office manager, for several years and she also worked for Reliant Electric. She moved to Duarte, California in 1984 where she met her second husband, James Gibson Graham. They married in 1989 and stayed in Duarte until they moved to La Mirada, California. Rose Marie and James lived in La Mirada for 14 years, where Rose Marie worked for a local doctor until she retired. She enjoyed gardening, shopping at flea markets and antique markets, and going to garage and lawn sales.

James was born in Pennsylvania and went to Western Reserve Academy in Ohio for high school, where he was on the football, basketball, lacrosse, and track teams. He was voted most humorous in his class, which fits him as he was always telling a joke or two. Jim graduated in 1947 and joined the U.S. Navy the next year. He served in the Korean war as a weather observer in Newfoundland, where, so he said, he acquired the taste for Screech!! A strong Rum. He ended his Navy career with the rank of Petty Officer 2nd class.

After the Navy he attended college in Florida and elsewhere to learn the art of finance. He went on to be a VP for several California Banks, and also had a government career with the SBA, which he retired from. However, he kept his toes in finance, doing consulting work for the SBA until the early 2000's when he fully retired and moved to Maine with Rose to be closer to family.

Rose Marie loved the Maine Coast and thought Maine was a beautiful place to live. While living in Maine, she was President of the Senior Citizens club in Hampden for a period of time.

James, also knowns as "Gib", (short for Gibson, his middle name, called by his family and friends) was an avid golfer who used to go once a year to Lanai and Kauai with 3 buddies for an annual golf vacation until he met the love of his life Rose ;-) He was a great golfer EXCEPT for when it came to Hole #8 at Bixby Village, where every time he teed off he'd land proverbially in the sand trap ... shall we say he gave his irons a whirl often afterwards.

He also ran a college and pro football pool for 51 years. Before PC took control, he would work all the statistics and spreads by hand! His family believes he truly missed doing this once his health would no longer allow him to do so. Another passion of his was crossword puzzles. He loved to work the USA Today puzzles even up to a week before his passing.

Rose Marie and Jim enjoyed spending time with each other and with their family, it was what truly made them happy.

Rose Marie leaves behind two sons: Michael Scott Bowden (Sandy), of Zephyrhills, FL, and Christian R. Bowden (Deborah), of Lindale, TX; one brother, Sam Jensen (Lorraine), of Washington State; six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jim (Gib) leaves behind a Sister in law Barbara (Jim's brother Robert passed earlier this year) their children Jacqueline, Chris and Brian, brother Malcolm and his son John, and many grand nieces and nephews.

Rose Marie and James will be greatly missed by their family and friends. A memorial service was held on June 13, 2018 in Florida. They were buried at sea according to their wishes.
