It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Kentson Rutherford, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ronald passed away peacefully at his residence in Ridge Manor, FL, on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born on February 1, 1935, in Lenox, GA, to Sylvester and Viru Rutherford, Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved siblings, Vernon, Bonnie, and Patsy, as well as his nephew, Scott McCarthy. He attended schools in Georgia and Florida, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with dedication and love.
In October 1954, Ronald joined the Army, proudly serving his country until October 1956. Following his military service, he embarked on a career as a delivery truck driver for a bottling company. His career path later led him to the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a mail carrier until his retirement on March 24, 1993.
Ronald married the love of his life, Anita, on September 11, 1970. They spent 55 wonderful years together, building a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Ronald is survived by his cherished wife, Anita Rutherford of Ridge Manor, FL; his devoted sister, Velma Saccone of Tampa, FL; and his loving children, Kathy Arrendale of Athens, GA, Carol Anderson, and Janice Ratcliff of Nobleton, FL. He also leaves behind a legacy of 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Ronald had a passion for woodworking and veggie gardening, finding peace and satisfaction in his hobbies. A voracious reader of western novels, he was an avid fan of John Wayne, finding inspiration and adventure within the pages he turned.
Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of Ronald's remarkable life at the Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City, where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10:30 am. He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 10 am.
Ronald's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy will continue through the stories shared and the love he gave. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love of those he cherished throughout his life.
