Robert L Zehetner, passed away while fighting for our country, on November 20, 1943. He served in the Marines during World War II. Robert received a Purple Heart Medal for wounds he received in action against the enemy on November 20, 1943 on Tarawa. He also received a Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Roberts remains were previously unidentified and buried in Tarawa until 1949 where he was placed in the National Memorial Cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was recently identified and will be placed at Florida National Cemetery.Robert attended Pasco High School until he joined the service in 1941.His father, Roy passed away in 1985, his mother, Irene passed away in 1989, brother, Tommy passed away in 1998 and his sister, Lois Snyder passed away in 2016. Robert is survived by his sister: Janan Smith; and several nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be held on November 30, 2018 at 11:00 am at Florida National Cemetery.Arrangements were made by Hodges Family Funeral Home.
