Robert Chester Sutton
Robert "Bob" Sutton, resident of Dade City, peacefully passed away at his home at the age of 90. He was born In Beaufort Co., NC and raised on a farm in Chocowiniity, NC. He was the son of Robert Sutton and Emily Wilson, and a member of the First Christian Church in Washington, NC. After graduating from high school, Bob entered the United States Air Force in 1949. For most of Bobs Air Force career he was assigned to the Ground Electronics Engineering Installation Agency (GEEIA) and eventually attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. In 1969 SMSgt Sutton was awarded the Bronze Star for his "exemplary leadership, personal endeavor, and devotion to duty" for his service during the Vietnam War, Over the course of his military career he received several other commendations for his meritorious service. After 22 years of active duty, he retired in Massachusetts. He was justifiably proud of his military career as evidenced by the fact that he was a Life Member of Disabled American Veterans, Life Member of the Sergeants Association, and a member of the Dade City American Legion. Not one to remain idle for long, Bob soon began a second career in the US Postal service from which he also retired. In 1993 he relocated from Massachusetts to Dade City. Bob was an avid golfer, bird watcher, wine connoisseur, and Monarch Butterfly conservationist. He spent a great deal of time landscaping and gardening with the help of his close friend James to create a beautiful oasis at his home.
Bob is survived by his brother Seth Sutton and Seths wife Peggy. He is also survived by his children, Joan Keeble, Robert Sutton III, Darleena Jones, Diane Dulsky, Robin Beal, and Mary Ward, as well as his 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind Andy, his cat and great companion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Sutton, both of his parents, a daughter, Cathy Turcotte, and his sisters Millie L. Lassiter and Grace Eddings.
Services will be held at Hodges Family Funeral Home on US 301 in Dade City. There will be a viewing on July 29th, Thursday, from 1-2:00pm to be followed by a service from 2-3:00pm. A military honors service will be held on Friday, July 30th, at 10:00am in Bushnell at the Florida National Cemetery. Please arrive at the Florida National Cemetery gate before 9:30am in order to attend the 10:00am service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
