Obituary

Brother Robert "Marvin" Strickland, 74 of Groveland, FL passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at his home. A native of Center Hill, FL, he was the son of the late Dora Mae Merritt Strickland and the late John Henry Strickland, both from Center Hill. Marvin was a 1961 graduate of South Sumter High School in Bushnell, FL. He served as President of his local FFA Chapter during his senior year and also surrendered to preach prior to graduation. Marvin was loved by a host of friends and acquaintances. He spent 43 of his 53 years ministering at Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Lacoochee. Marvin is survived by his wife: Callie Dix Strickland; daughter: Gwendolen S. Keough-Johns and her husband Paul Johns; son: Stephen Earl Strickland and his wife Sophie Collins Strickland; 4 sister: Marguerite Rogers and her husband RJ, Melba Odom Lutton and her husband Lewis, Doris Story, Linda Crawford and her husband Johnny; 3 brothers: Oscar Lamar "Pete" Strickland and his wife Wyona, John Henry Strickland Jr and his wife Louise, Jack Daniel Strickland and his wife Janice; 4 grandchildren: Shelby Strickland Vordemark and her husband Corey, Justin Collin Strickland, Casey Layne Keough, Shaina Michele Keough; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marvin is also survived by several extended family members, church family members and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his mother: Dora Mae Strickland, father: John Henry Strickland, sister: Alice Fay Strickland, brother: Gerald Spurgeon "Jerry" Strickland, and 2 brothers-in-law: John Ed Odom and Doyle Story. Funeral services will be held 2pm Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the Tuscanooga Baptist Church in Groveland, Florida. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 4-6pm at the Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Lacoochee and on Monday, September 21, 2015 from 5-7pm at the Tuscanooga Baptist Church in Groveland. Burial will take place at Tuscanooga Baptists Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in his memory to either Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church or to Cornerstone Hospice.
