Richard J. Smith - "Dick" - passed away unexpectedly with his family by his side on July 18, 2021.
He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Jeannette and his brothers Kenneth and Philip.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Amy and his 3 children, Kathleen
(Francis), Karen (Tegan), and Richard (Maryann). Dick was a man who took pleasure in the simple things in life and never took for granted the gift of time. A man who loved his family first and foremost, which was evident from the return of that love from his
grandchildren: Kimberly (Thomas), Kathryn (Diwesh), Kaylene, Tanner, Garrett (Molly), Jillian (David), Darran, Erica (Benjamin), Emilie (Michael) and Ethan and one great grandchild, Kenley of whom he video chatted with on a weekly basis. They will all miss their "Bumpa" dearly.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sharon Smithand several nieces and nephews.
Dick graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1957 and entered the USMC. He married Amy in December of 1960. He worked in a number of
manufacturing facilities as a press operator until his retirement to Zephyrhills in 2002. He was an active member of the Betmar community and a lifelong fan of the NE Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He loved his daily golf games with his friends from the .25 cent gang. He took pride in his weekly football picks with his son, Rick, where he beat him in 24 out of 26 years. He will forever reign as the familys Monopoly Champion. Known by his quick wit, recurrent corny jokes and his compromised knowledge of todays technological advances he always made us laugh. He and Amy were fortunate enough to enjoy their love of travel and took several memorable trips around the world.
In lieu of flowers, Dicks family requests that donations be made to the Thomas Promise Foundation at 4542 Gall Blvd., Zephyrhills, FL 33542 or online at thethomaspromise.org
A celebration of life will be forthcoming at the Betmar Community Center as well as one in the Northeast that will be announced at a later date.
