Schellhase, Richard F.August 8, 1932 - March 23, 2018Richard "Rich" Schellhase of Ridge Manor, FL, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the age of 85. He was born in Blue Island, Illinois to William and Ada (Diekman) Schellhase on August 8, 1932. Rich joined the Marine Reserves at the age of 17, and at the age of 18 was called to active duty during the Korean War, serving in the First Division, First Regiment "C" Company. He was honorably discharged March 16, 1952 with the rank of Sergeant. He continued to serve our country thru his Honor Guard duties, serving with VFW post 10209.After his discharge, Rich returned to the Blue Island, Illinois area, where he farmed with his father.In 1954, he married Joann Winker, and they had 3 children, Pamela, Bruce, and Cathy.In 1967, they purchased a dairy farm in Fennimore, WI, where they farmed for 13 years.In 1980, Rich and Joann sold their farm and moved to Florida, where Rich worked at various positions, most notably as a press operator for OR Plastics in Brooksville.Rich was a huge fan of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He was an avid Bears and Cubs fan. He enjoyed all types of card games, board games and doing crossword puzzlesIn retirement, Rich became the chef of the household, homemade pizza being his specialty, and a treat all his family and friends looked forward to.Richard and Joann also traveled a great deal during their marriage.Richard is survived by his wife, Joann, his children Pamela Schellhase, Bruce (Merry) Schellhase and Cathy Schellhase, as well as 3 grandchildren, Jacqueline Schellhase, Jordan Schellhase and Justin Schellhase, and numerous cousins and friends. He is also survived by his special dog, Molly.He is preceded in death by his father, William Schellhase, and his mother Ada (Diekman) Schellhase.A celebration of Richs life will be held on Wednesday, March 28th, 2018 at All Faiths United Church in Ridge Manor Florida. Final interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, where the Marine Honor Guard as well as VFW post 10209 will provide full military honors. Rich was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
