Richard D. Cote of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022, at the age of 91. After years of battling Alzheimers, Dick died peacefully with his beloved wife Shirley by his side. Richard was born on September 25, 1931, in Tupper Lake, NY to David and Dora Cote. He served in the United States Navy as a boiler mate. Upon leaving the Navy, he found the love of his life, Shirley Phelps, and married her on October 25th. They were married for 67 years before his passing. Dick loved to hunt, fish and work outside in the yard. He was an honest, hardworking man who loved his family very much and instilled his work ethic in each of them. Dick had several jobs until taking over the family business in Star Lake, NY. Cotes Friendly Service was a place where people felt welcome and trusted Dick to take care of their every need. After selling the family business, Dick and Shirley headed to Florida to be nearer to their grandchildren. Dick worked at Saddlebrook Resort as a mechanic for several years before retiring. He is survived by his wife Shirley, son, Peter Cote, daughters; Beth Golden (Bod Golden), Robin Davies and Cathy Wheeler, 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He will be loved and missed by all. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking those who wish to plant a tree in Richard's honor.
