REV. DR. FEDERICO I. AGNIR

After a long battle with prostate and pancreatic cancers, Federico Ines Agnir passed away peacefully in his Wesley Chapel home, attended by his daughters, Mirla Criste Agnir and Rowena N. Rantanen; their husbands Bryan Thompson and Eric Rantanen; his oldest grandchild Steven Curtiss and his beloved wife Ruby Leah Agnir.

The Rev. Dr. Federico Agnir was born in Claveria, Cagayan, Philippines, the fifth of six children of Atty. Wenceslao Agnir, Sr. and Cristina Ines Agnir. He graduated from Ilocos Norte High School, Class 1955; the University of the Philippines (B.A. History and Speech), Class of 1959; and Silliman University (Master of Divinity, magna cum laude), Class of 1968. Federico then migrated to the United States in 1971 where he earned a Master of Arts in Communication at Syracuse University in 1973, as well as a doctorate in Education at the University of Massachusetts in 1989. A two-career person most of his adult life, he served in Massachusetts as tenured professor at Greenfield Community College and pastor to UCC churches in Western Massachusetts for 30 years. In 2001, Federico led the founding group that established SUACONA, the organization of Silliman alumni living in North America. After retiring to Florida in 2004, he enjoyed organizing alumni reunions for his Philippine alma maters, receiving outstanding alumni awards at these events. In both Massachusetts and Florida, he engaged in charitable activities through the organizations in which he was a member, including the Green Room Players, First Congregational Church of Greenfield, the American Cancer Society, American Mensa, the Shriners, the Masonic Order, the Order of the Eastern Star, First UCC Church of Tampa, Trinity Church of Wesley Chapel and Atonement Lutheran Church of Wesley Chapel. A published author, Federico's works include his autobiography entitled When God Calls, available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble, as well as a number of musical compositions. On April 28, 2018, he and his wife celebrated their 5ih wedding anniversary at Atonement Lutheran Church, with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruby Ordinario, daughters Mirla and Rowena, son Frederick R. Agnir, grandson Steven, and granddaughters Kayla Agnir, Rachel Agnir, Elysse Rantanen, Katie Rantanen and Laura Rantanen; sons-in-law Bryan and Eric and daughter-in-law Christiana Agnir. A Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance will be held at Atonement Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wesley Chapel onAugust 19th at 3 PM . In lieu of flowers, please make your donations to the American Cancer Society.
