CONNELL, Renny Michael, 80, died peacefully on January 11, 2025. He was born in Pahokee Hospital but brought up in nearby Belle Glade, Florida, by parents G.L. and Gene M. Connell. He graduated from Belle Glade High School in 1962 and was editor of the school newspaper, was on the yearbook staff, in Student Council, and on the golf team. He then attended Palm Beach Junior College and had such great teachers as the esteemed Watson B. Duncan HL He then went to Florida Atlantic University in its first class, graduating with a B.A. in history in 1965. He also received an M.Ed. in 1967 and set out on his teaching career at Vardell Hall, a private school in North Carolina. In 1969 he taught history at Florida Atlantic and received an M.A. degree in history. He then got a position at Pasco High School in Dade City enjoyably teaching history and government for almost 25 years, retiring in 1995. While at Pasco High he was department chairman, golf coach, and also coach of the school's Brain Bowl team as well as Pasco's two television quiz teams. He was a popular teacher and retained friendships with many of his former students. In retirement, he enjoyed reading, walking, and going to and giving parties at his secluded Utopia in Wesley Chapel. He posted newspaper articles, pictures and his own progressive views to Facebook for many years.
Mr. Connell was predeceased by his parents and his younger brother, Dr. Kevin Connell. He is survived by his sister Janet Richardson and her husband Bob, nephews Mike and Beau Ross, his niece Sydney (husband Joseph), his grand nieces Samantha and Sophia, grand nephew Lorenzo, and many friends and relatives.
