Obituary

Rebecca Ann Martin, at a young 59 years, has left this earth to go to her heavenly home and be with Jesus early on Thursday morning, the 20th of June 2024 at Marliere Hospice House of New Port Richey. After winning the awful yearlong battle against breast cancer; not even a year later; she lost the one against cancer of the liver. Rebecca was born on the 29th of January 1965 in Tampa, FL. being somewhat of a rarity, a native Florida girl. Shes always said her first job was as a migrant worker, picking strawberries in Plant City. Rebecca was pre-deceased by her parents Leslie D Ellis Sr. and Tom & Vicki Smith (Ellis/Eland), also her brother Joseph. She is survived and dearly missed by her husband Chris Martin Sr.; her son Chris Martin Jr., and his wife Liz and their children Arabella, Madrox and Ann Marie; her daughter Rici Martin and her children Teresa (or Marti) and Paul (or Leslie); also her brothers Leslie Ellis Jr & Robert Smith. Rebecca & Chris met at work while attending high school 2 grades apart and were married on April 19th 1983 in Plant City, 6 days later Chris went to boot camp. They were then whisked off to wherever the Navy needed Chris to be stationed; Florida 3 times, Virginia 2 times and New Jersey once. He often stated she was always "in his seabag". While he was out to sea on his many "Pleasure Cruises" as she called them, she was in charge of the homestead, raising their children often working herself in a variety of occupations; some big-name fast-food restaurants, always rising to managerial positions. Terminix was almost the proverbial straw, her "company vehicle" was a stick shift - that 3rd pedal threw her for a loop. While at their last duty station at Naval Ordinance Test Unit, Florida, she found a flower shop to work at that she thoroughly enjoyed, again rising to a managerial position, she was always being asked if she was "the Owner". "They" retired from the military after 24 years and thought they were in their forever home in Titusville, Florida. Until tragedy happened in her family, in Sept of 2016 her mother passed and a year later they decided to move to Ridge Manor to be closer to her father, to eventually take over his construction business. Rebecca was a very special person, her smile, affection and compassion were contagious to everyone she encountered. The struggle with her health these past two years has come to an end and she will rest at the national cemetery in Bushnell. Visitation will commence at 9:30 and the service will commence at 10:30 at the Croom-A-Coochee Baptist Church on Thursday June 27th. Burial will be at 12:30 p. m.
