Obituary

MORA, Raul L. 98 of Dade City, FL died on Wed., Sept 27, 2017. Mr. Mora was born in Habana, Cuba on Jan 1, 1919 to Raul Mora Aranguren and Josefa Suarez-Galban Hernandez. While growing up in Cuba, Mr. Mora was fortunate to live a privileged life, traveling outside of Cuba frequently and furthering his education at some of the finest educational institutions. While studying engineering at La Universidad de la Habana, he met and later married architect Alicia Pujals Mederos, who was then also a student. Mr. Mora began his engineering career in Cuba, where he served as Engineer for the water department of the Cuban Ministry of Public Works, Chief Sales Engineer for the Machinery Dept. of Riera Toro Van Twistern, S. A., and held a variety of positions in Pujals y Compaa and Constructora Pujals, S. A.. After emigrating to the United States, he worked in various engineering projects and as an Engineering Consultant for a number of companies located in South Florida, including: United Trussed Roof Co., Concrete Designs, Inc., R. H. Wright, Inc., Behring Corp., H. Miller and Sons, Inc., D. E. Britt Associates, Inc. and Beiswerger, Hoch and Associates. His last job before retiring was with the Broward County Parks and Recreation Division, where he worked for 19 years and was responsible for the expansion, and enhancement of the County Park System funded by the 1978 Bond Issue. He was a member of the Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles de Cuba, Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles de Cuba en el Exilio, National Society of Professional Engineers, and Florida Engineering Society. Mr. Mora was preceded in death by his wife Alicia on Aug. 11, 2008. He leaves behind his loving family, children: Alicia Cristina (Mora Pujals) McHugh, Maria Elena (Mora Pujals) Crosby and her husband Thomas (Tim), and Raul Francisco Mora Pujals and his wife Debra Lynn (Putnam) Mora. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Prayers 7:30 p.m.) at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 11441 U.S. Hwy 301, Dade City, FL 33525 and again on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Prayers 7:00 p.m.) at the Fred Hunters Funeral Home, 2401 S. University Drive, Davie, FL 33324. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. David Catholic Church, 3900 S. University Dr., Davie, FL 33328. Mr. Mora will be laid to rest with his wife during a committal service at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery 1500 South State Road 7 (441), North Lauderdale, FL 33068.
