Ramona Hazel Meyers nee Wood Jefford (Frederick)Ramona was the eight child, born to the union of the late Ralph and AlmaWood on the 4th day of May, 1938. She was born on the beautiful island ofGuanaja, Bay Islands of Honduras. As a child she was very quiet and private and was loved dearly by her parentsand older siblings. She was an astute student and attended the local schooluntil she was sent to further her studies in Nicaragua where she remained untilshe attained the age of 16 after which she returned to Honduras to her parents.Ramona enjoyed being in the kitchen with her mother Ms. Alma when shewould be cooking and baking and would most often-times be the child whowould be involved in the familys preparation for Sabbath dinner meals. Shelearned to cook and bake from her mother and older siblings who were all greatcooks. She loved her dad Mr. Ralph Wood dearly and would often share theirstories with her grandsons.Ramona had a great love for her parents and siblings and would be saddenwhen her older brothers would leave for the seas to take up employment toassist their parents in the rearing of the younger siblings.Ramona expressed to her parents of her wishes to travel and see the world andwas given the opportunity to visit her aunt and unlce in Bluefields, Nicaraguaand, at the age of 19 her father also arranged to send her to the CaymanIslands where it was intended that she would be welcomed by her fathersfamily and relatives who resided in the district of Bodden Town. However, uponher arrival to the Cayman Islands she was met by her cousin the late Mr. Timothy"Buddy" McField who would then take her to live with him and his family in thedistrict of George Town and with whom she resided for many years. Ramonanever really met any of her Fathers family and relatives until many years later.Ramona travelled back and forth to the Cayman Islands from 1956 to 1962. Shethen remained in Guanaja until 1969 when she travelled to New York to visit herlate Sister Nelissa and her family taking with her, her niece the late DarleneBorden. She remained faithful in her spiritual walk and would often-timesbe found right after breakfast each morning sitting at the familys breakfasttable having her devotions. She was of quiet demeanor and whilst her familyreally did not hear her pray out-loud she would always tell them that she had,and would be praying for them. She would always tell her grandchildren thatthey should stand for something or they would fall for anything. Her warningswere always heeded, and advice sought from her children and grandchildren.Ramona was diagnosed with Parkinsons in April, May and August of 2008 bythree separate Doctors; one in Honduras, one in Cayman and one in Tampa.Over the years she continued under careful and watchful medical care of herdaughter, Morna and her family, Doctors in the Cayman Islands and Tampa upuntil her recent passing.
