Smith, Ralph Dill, 94, of Brooksville, Fla., died on October 7, 2012 at HPH Hospice, Brooksville. He was born July 21, 1918 in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Mifflin High School. Ralph entered US Air Force (8th Army Air Corp) during WWII as a B17 Bomber Pilot and retired as a 1st LT with a Purple Heart. His veteran organizations are E.T.O 100th Bomb Group 349th, Bloody Hundredth, Air Force Escapees Society, Caterpillar Club, and DAV. He piloted WWII-B17 Bombers & B24 Bombers which were shot down Sept. 3, 1948 over France on their 2nd mission and had to escape, by walking, into Spain via the Pyrenees Mountains. He was a Masonic Chandler 138 in London, Ohio, who received his 50 year pin in 1991. Ralph was a part of the Egypt Temple Shrine and The Scottish Rite in Tampa for 52 years. He was an owner of grapefruit and orange groves and joined the Florida Citrus Mutual in 1969. Ralph retired from Central Truck Lines, Tampa, Fla., in 1975. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home with friends and family all over America. He is predeceased by his wife, Kathleen Owens Smith, for 68 years; survived by brother-in-law; Kenneth Owens; nieces; nephews; great-nieces & nephews; and great-great-nieces & nephews. Services will be held Friday, October 12, 2012 from 10:30-11 with a sermon to follow at Hodges Family Funeral Home, Hwy 301, Dade City, Fla. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Gardens, Dade City.
