Phyllis L. Lipsey, 78, of Dade City, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2018 at her home. Phyllis was born August 1, 1939 in Pittsfield, MA to Herbert A. and Phyllis (Drake) Mongue, and was a graduate of Dalton High School in Dalton, MA. After attending Northampton Commercial College, she moved to Dade City in 1959. She married Herbert J. Lipsey from Dade City in 1961 and supported him throughout his working life, including serving as the state president of the Florida Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary. Phyllis had a lifelong passion for music, and she taught piano and organ in her home for 20 years. She also founded and directed a chapter of Sweet Adelines, bringing barbershop harmony to many in the community. In addition, she shared her love of dollhouses and collectibles through the operation of Tiny World Miniatures, a local business she established and ran for 28 years. Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Herbert A. Mongue, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence M. Mongue; and by 3 sons: Herbert J. Lipsey, Jr.; Richard A. Lipsey, Col, USAF (Ret), his wife Cheryl, and their children, David and Danielle; and James W. Lipsey, his wife Kathy, and their children, Mikaela and Jarrod. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
