CUNIO, Philip Jerome, 88, passed away on April 1, 2024, after a brief illness. Phil was born in Miami, Fl. to Harry E. and Evelyn (Jones) Cunio. Phil spent his retirement years in Zephyrhills. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and the American Legion. He was also a founding member of Hialeah Speedway in Miami, FL. He built several racecars that were driven by future champions including Donnie Allison and Gil Hearn among others. Phil enjoyed league bowling and taking his hot rods to car shows. Phil was a devoted Christian and attended New Walk Church in Zephyrhills. He was a huge NASCAR fan and also rooted for the Florida Gators football team. He is survived by his three children, Philip K. and Diane Cunio, Beverly J. Hilton, and David J. and Lisa Cunio; stepdaughter, Glenna Marsh; stepson, Scott Sugg; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Phil was predeceased by both of his parents; a brother, Dr. John E. Cunio; his first wife, Joyce Downing; his second wife, Betty Cunio; and a grandson, Justin Mckesson. Phil's family will host a funeral service on April 13 at Hodges family Funeral Home in Dade City.
