Peter Joseph Ryan, 89, of Wesley Chapel, FL, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, surrounded by family.
He was born on June 19, 1936, in The Bronx, NY, to parents Ruth (Hotaling) and Albert Ryan. Peter attended Cardinal Hayes High School and Parsons School of Design. He was a member of the US Army and served honorably as a sergeant.
As a pioneer in the computer programming industry, Peter worked in the early development of software systems for a variety of industries. He had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and was a founder and leader of technology companies. He also had a distinguished career with Citibank, where he managed domestic and international network capabilities, including serving in Brussels, Belgium as Vice President of Global Telecommunications.
Large portions of Peter’s life were spent in New York, NY, Woodcliff Lake, NJ, Los Angeles, CA, and most recently Wesley Chapel, FL.
Peter loved art, travel, running, tennis, and walks on the beach, and he was an avid fan of the New York sports teams. He coached his sons’ baseball teams and was affectionately known as “Pistol Pete.”
Peter is survived by his wife, Lee Ryan of Wesley Chapel, FL; his children, Sean, George, and Lori; his first wife, Jill Ryan; and his grandchildren, Scott, Matthew, Michael, Tyler, Bianca, and Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Ann Ryan, and his son, Peter Scott Ryan.
