Paul Aubrey Ort passed away on October 4, 2023, in Brooksville, Florida. He was born at home on July 11, 1935, in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania where he lived until 1947. His public-school days were completed in Clearwater. He then worked his way through The Florida State University. During his days at FSU, Paul was President of his Class of 1957 and of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Secretary of I.F.C., a four-year Marching Chief in the Original "Big Eight", and was a member of the University Singers, Alpha Council and Gold Key. Selected to Whos Who in the American Colleges and Universities and the FSU Hall of Fame, he earned his private pilot license and was commissioned as a flying officer through Air Force ROTC. Paul was an accomplished pianist and entertainer.
After his service in the Air Force and completion of a masters degree at FSU, Paul was appointed as treasurer/manager of the multi state Credit League for Flower Industries in Thomasville. Subsequently, he became proprietor of Orts Music Store at the Northwood Mall for over 20 years. He aided hundreds of private music teachers by supplying popular music at various levels of difficulty. Who can forget Nadias Theme, Star Wars and Music Box Dancer, which retained so many students who objected to boring, traditional methods? Many national music teaching composers and experts were brought in to provide piano teachers workshops at his store.
In his early years, Paul loved traveling and had put a foot down in all fifty states by age 32. He resided in eight states, Labrador and the Northwest Territories in Canada, and Japan. Among his favorite pastimes were the Seminole Boosters, the Chiefs for their 38 first great years, attending sports and College of Music events, and organizing Air Force Squadron, Marching Chiefs, and college class reunions.
In early retirement for health reasons, he enjoyed substitute teaching at the local middle and high schools. At one point, he could name 600 Leon High students. In later life, his great joy was do-it-yourself projects and landscaping at his log home. Paul considered himself a strong Christian believer. He wanted people to remember him as a man with common sense who was fair and considerate but never politically correct. His earthly remains will reside at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
