Patricia "Pat" Annette Pruett Oakley, 81, of Dade City, died Sunday, July 2. She was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Tom Ed Oakley. Together the two built the thriving citrus business Oakley Groves and raised a loving family.Mrs. Oakley was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family that includes two daughters, Ann Maggard, and husband Dale, of Dade City, and Kelly Walker, of Delray Beach, and two sons,Tom Oakley, and wife, Lynn, of Winter Haven, and Ron Oakley, and wife, Deirdre, of Zephyrhills. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, along with five great-grandchildren on the way.Born Dec. 12, 1935 in Kinston, AL, the girl they called "Patsy" moved to Dade City in 1949 with her parents, Harwood and Elizabeth Grimes Pruett. She graduated from Pasco High School in 1954 and attended Massey Business School in Jacksonville.She is also survived by two sisters: Judy Walls (Henry), of Dade City, and Melinda Mischik (Larry), of Atlanta, as well as several nieces and nephews. Her brothers, James Joseph and David Michael Pruett, predeceased her in death.In the 1970s the Oakleys opened Chapel Hill Gardens, where Mrs. Oakley worked for many years. In 1985 they opened Oakley Funeral Home in Dade City and in 1987 they opened a funeral home in Zephyrhills, both now known as Hodges Family Funeral Homes.Known for her smile and sunny personality, her many friends enjoyed her company as a member of the Magnolia Circle of The Dade City Garden Club, as well as playing cards with several groups, including the Dessert Bridge Club in Dade City and the Friday Bridge Group at Lake Jovita. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Dade City, as well as the Winchester Creek Country Club in Waynesville, NC, where she and her husband spend many summers at their North Carolina home.Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel on U.S. 301 South, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens Mausoleum.
