Obituary

Patricia "Tricia" Elisabeth Jones passed away peacefully on June 22nd, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of kindness, adventure, faith, and creativity.

Tricia was born on March 30, 1946, in San Diego, California, to Mary Elisabeth (Wilkes) Hanner and Captain Joseph M. Hanner. As the daughter of a career Navy officer, she spent much of her childhood in naval housing in California before the family eventually settled in Jacksonville, Florida during her high school years. Her summers were often spent in Indiana with extended family, creating lifelong bonds and treasured memories. Known as "Patty" during her childhood, she later became known to family and friends simply as "Tricia."

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly twenty years, Terry Junius Jones, who passed away in January of this year. Their marriage was a testament to love, companionship, and shared adventures. Fittingly, they exchanged their vows on the beautiful island of Maui, one of Tricia's favorite places in the world.

Tricia is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Elisabeth Mabie; her son-in-law, Chris Mabie; her grandson, Caleb Mabie; and many cherished cousins and friends who held a special place in her heart.

A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Tricia's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She found comfort, purpose, and joy in her relationship with the Lord and in sharing fellowship with her church family.

Few people embraced life with as much enthusiasm for exploration as Tricia. She was a true traveler whose adventures carried her from the islands of the South Pacific to Germany, Israel, South America, and throughout the United States. She rarely stayed in one place for long, always eager to discover something new. Of all the places she visited, Hawaii remained closest to her heart. She returned there time and again, especially to the islands of Kauai and Maui, where she found peace, beauty, and treasured memories.

Her interests were as varied as her travels. Horses were one of her passions, and she especially loved spending time on trail rides up into the 1980s. Music filled another special place in her heart throughout her life. Over the years she learned to play the accordion, harpsichord, banjo, and drums, though the organ was the instrument she played with the greatest skill and joy. She also shared her musical talents by singing in her church choir throughout much of the 1980s while living in New Jersey. Her love of the performing arts extended to the stage as well, where she appeared in local theatrical productions during her years in California. Whether admiring impressionist masterpieces, surrealist works, realistic landscapes, or modern art, Tricia appreciated beauty in all its forms. Above all, she loved spending time with friends and sharing laughter and conversation.

Throughout her life, Tricia approached every occupation with dedication, precision, and creativity. Her career included working with punch-card systems at a Chevrolet dealership, preparing real estate listings, serving as a bookkeeper for a local artist, and later becoming a stock day trader. Whatever the role, she embraced new challenges with curiosity and determination.

One of Tricia's greatest joys was serving as a Girl Scout leader for many years. She delighted in helping young girls develop confidence, curiosity, and character. She organized camping adventures and horseback riding outings, invited guest speakers to teach practical skills such as first aid, encouraged volunteer service, and inspired countless girls to discover new interests and believe in themselves.

In later years, chronic respiratory illness gradually stole from her the freedom to travel that had brought her so much happiness. Though her world became smaller, her love for family, friends, and the memories of a life well lived never diminished.

Tricia will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, unwavering faith, generous heart, creativity, and genuine love of people. She leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, music, and cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
