Obituary

Patricia Smith Carver, 85, of Dade City, FL, passed away Monday, March 21st, 2022, under the care of Gulfside Regional Hospice. She was born April 13, 1936, in Macon, Georgia, to Ralph and Lavinia Smith. She grew up in Orlando, Florida. She graduated from Florida State University and worked as a school teacher. She was a longtime area resident of Dade City, a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Dade City and a 60-year member of the Dade City Garden Club. At the Garden Club Pat was active at both the District and State Garden Club levels where she chaired numerous committees and served on many judging panels, and had a special interest in their Environmental Advocacy Program and became a champion of local environmental issues.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dr. George Carver; 3 children: Ed Carver and his wife Robin, Marcia Piersall and her husband Keith, Susan Carver; and her sister-in-law Jean Smith. Pat was known as Grams to her 4 grandchildren: Isaac Piersall and his fiance Amanda Shavers, Chloe Cascio and her husband Alex, Chris Carver, and Alex Carver, and was also Aunt Pat to 7 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Lavinia Smith, her brother Bubba Smith, his wife Margie, and their son Carl, and brother Al Smith.

Pat was known for many wonderful things, including being an inspiring mentor, a generous and faithful friend, and warm and loving wife and mother. One of her favorite things was to have their driveway filled with the cars of her children and grandchildren. Cooking was a great passion of hers, for a family gathering or for a friend in need. She had a smile that lit up any room which even shined through her eyes despite mask requirements during Covid times. One thing that was certain, she would drop anything and everything to care for a friend or loved one. Her friends, family, and faith in God were always most important to her and guided her life.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 2 pm Sunday, March 27th, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Dade City, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens. The family will receive friends for viewing from 5-7 pm Saturday evening at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City.

Flowers will be gratefully accepted or those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Dade City Garden Club.
