Oliver "Nick" Skoglund, 90, formerly of Huntsville Alabama, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024 in the excellent care of AdventHealth of Dade City, in Pasco County, FL.

Nick was born October 17, 1934 in Bluford, Illinois. He moved around a lot growing up before finally settling in Semmes, Alabama, as a teenager. He met his love, Joan McElveen, as she played the piano in church (he sang in the choir) and married her on December 20, 1955. They remained married until her death in November of 2023.

He served in the United State Marine Corps as a communications technician from March of 1954 to March of 1962 (including Marine Reserves). After his honorable discharge as a Corporal from the service, he attended Georgia Tech where he acquired an associate degree in electrical engineering.

After the call by President Kennedy in the 60's to fly men safely to the moon and back, he went to work for Boeing on the development of the Saturn V rocket used for the Apollo missions that achieved president Kennedy's goal.

His 63-year involvement with The Boy Scouts of America (mostly with Troop 364) was an organization that he firmly believed in, where he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow (Vigil), as well as achieving his Woodbadge (3 beads) and Silver Beaver awards, among many others. He was also a devoted participant in Toastmasters, having won many awards for his speeches over the years.

He is survived by his son Robert Skoglund (wife Karen), four grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and his daughter Elizabeth McCarthy (husband John) of Connecticut, as well as many wonderful friends and colleagues in Huntsville where they lived for decades until he moved to Florida last year to live with his son and his wife.
