Norma Valdes, a beloved mother, sister, and teacher, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Havana, Cuba, Norma was the cherished daughter of Leopoldo and Fredesvinda Valdes and sister to her dear brother, Leo Valdes.
A graduate of the University of New Orleans, Norma dedicated her professional life to enriching the minds of young students as a teacher at Prince George's Public Schools. Her passion for education and commitment to her students left a lasting impact on many lives.
Norma's compassionate spirit extended beyond the classroom. She was an ardent supporter of animal welfare and devoted much of her time to cat rescue, ensuring that countless animals found loving homes.
In her personal life, Norma was a loving mother who found her greatest joy in her family. She is survived by her three children: Margarita Lewis and her husband, Donald, Maria Tiller and her husband, CT, and Danny Matta and his wife, Julie. Her legacy of kindness and love will continue through them.
Though she resided in Zephyrhills, FL, Norma's heart held fond memories of her time in both Louisiana and Maryland. She will be laid to rest at a later date in Richmond, VA, where she will be celebrated and remembered by those who knew her best.
Norma's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their love and support during this time.
