Norma Castor Gorsuch, 99 years of age, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in Dade City, Florida on July 16th, 2023.
Norma was born March 3rd,1924 in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of Nicholas and Georgia Castor. Norma was raised in Ohio, along with her sister Martha Castor Lowe, she graduated from Hamilton High School.
While attending high school she met the love of her life, Edwin Lee Gorsuch whom she married in 1942. Soon after marriage, Ed was drafted and served in WWII until the war ended. While Ed was serving his country, Norma worked for both Sylvania and Ford, supporting the war effort at home.
In addition to Norma's employment, she also attended vocational school and procured her cosmetology certification, a few years later she opened her successful beauty salon. Norma and Ed moved to St. Petersburg, Florida not long after his return home from the war. During the early years of their marriage, Norma primarily served as a homemaker and mother to their two daughters: Pamela Gorsuch Rice and Cheryl Ann Gorsuch, she supported Ed in the development of their residential construction company which they operated for thirty years.
When their daughters headed off to the University of Florida, Norma devoted much of her time to learning more about business, finance, and investments and soon became the family's chief investments officer.
Ed and Norma enjoyed there retirement years! They traveled extensively and visited Las Vegas many times with friends, taking in amazing shows and enjoying time at the tables. They also enjoyed many trips on their boat, traveling the Florida waters with occasional excursions to the Bahamas. Later they spent many wonderful years enjoying their mountain home in Beach Mountain, NC where they played a lot of golf in the summer and were avid snow skiers in the winter. Their next adventure included the purchase of a large RV that they used to travel the country spending months on-end visiting the national parks, making lots of new friends, and enjoying rounds of golf along the way. Ed and Norma enjoyed 65 years of marriage and had an amazing life together!
Norma is predeceased by her parents Nicholas and Georgia Castor, sister Martha Castor Lowe, son-in-law Talmadge Gerald Rice and husband Edwin Lee Gorsuch.
Norma is survived by: daughter Pamela Gorsuch Rice, daughter Cheryl Ann Gorsuch, grandson Edwin Gilbert Rice (Elizabeth Rice), grandson Kelly Shelton Rice (Kathleen Rice), great-grandson Shelton Talmadge Rice (Kaitlyn Rice), great-granddaughter Elizabeth Alexandra Rice, great-grandson J. Winston Rice, great granddaughter Erin Elizabeth Rice, great-great grandson Everett Talmadge Rice, great-great grandson Bennett Shelton Rice, and great-great granddaughter Charlotte Leite Rice.
Norma's Celebration of Life will be held at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City, Florida on Saturday, July 22nd at 2:00 PM. There will be a reception for friends and family following the service at Lake Jovita Country Club.
