Nina J. Smith, 84, passed away on November 30, 2023, in Marion, IL. Nina was born on June 7, 1939, to parents Alber Edward and Edna Kinnard Miller in Wallins, KY. She graduated from West Aurora High School and went to work at the Beacon News for 25 years. Nina married C.P. (Shorty) Smith on November 21, 1959, in Dekalb, IL. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years. Nina took great joy in reading, cooking, and knitting. Nina is survived by her daughter Susan Dalene Smith of Marion, IL; granddaughters Kaitlin Smith of Tampa, FL, and Madison Smith of St. Augustine, FL; sister Deborah L. Youngblood of Celebration, FL; daughter-in-law Julie Smith-Newton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. She is preceded in death by her husband C.P. (Shorty) Smith, November 1, 1994; son Neil P. Smith, November 30, 2012; and sister Vanda L. Back, April 20, 2019. Nina was loved and will be missed by many. A visitation is being held on Friday, December 15, 2023, starting at 11:00 a.m. at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City. Services will follow at noon.
